Diana Sudyka- Morris's Nest

This amazing Etching by Diana Sudyka is now sold out, but it needs to be looked at more , so here are some photos and info. Diana's work is always masterful, this one is bittersweet.

"This is a 2 color (meaning 2 plate) copper etching that I made while visiting a print shop at Edinboro University in PA. The image is based loosely on a series engravings from an 1875 edition of Francis Orpen Morris, A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds. I've always been mesmerized by how the eggs eerily levitate about their nests in the images. The plates are printed up in a dark sepia brown (nest and background texture), and a robin's egg blue. They were printed by hand on a beautiful Takach intaglio press here in Chicago. The edition size is 18, and I have 13 available to sell. It's printed on a heavy weight, cream colored, cotton rag paper.

This print is a benefit print, meaning that 100% of the sales will go to help out a friend of mine. He lost his wife suddenly, under tragic circumstances in the first week of June 2009. The print is named in her honor as well as that of F.O. Morris. "

The Facts:

-2 color copper plate etching printed by hand

-paper size: 15.5 x 19.5 inches

-image size: 7.5 x 9 inches

-Printed on heavyweight, cotton rag, cream white Hahnemüle german etch paper

-Limited edition of 18, signed, numbered, and stamped with my chop mark

Oh Noes! DONT LET THE BLOG DIE!!!

OK- back to this thing.

Sonnenzimmer

Sonnenzimmer is the studio moniker for Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi. Since founding their joint studio a few years ago they have been quietly producing some of the most beautiful and innovative poster work to come out of Chicago. Highly idiosyncratic with an impressive level of craftsmanship, Sonnenzimmer is a haven for fans of the sublime.

Here's a piece they made for "Without you I am Nothing" , a group show of interactive prints curated by Anne Elizabeth Moore at Green Lantern Gallery.

And here is a nice piece Dan Sinker shot about them:

Chicago Prints!

Since I have no time between printing, drawing and parenting, I thought "why not start another blog?" The focus here will be on the amazing printmaking scene in Chicago. Obviously a primary focus will be screenprinting, as Chicago is home to some of the most talented and prolific screenprint artists working today. I'll be writing up new prints and posters put out by Chicago studios and artists and try not to get in the way.
